Last year on the 6th of June 2014, it was the 70th anniversary for Operation Overlord or D-day. Throughout the year I had noticed that an IMAX movie was running in the Tycho Brahe Planetarium near where I work. I never got around to go there until I checked in mid-August and saw that it was about to stop being shown.
I therefore quickly asked around, but I couldn’t find anyone, with the relatively short notice and inflexible airtime, to come with me, so I did something I haven’t done before. I went by myself to see this special movie! I went on the 6th of September 2014.
I arrived a bit early and spent some time walking around in the exhibition that is in the planetarium about mankind and space travel. It is quite interesting and even has a piece of the moon in there.
The movie is around 1 hour long and it’s made to give you an overview of the events before, under and after Operation Overlord. It utilizes the 3D and IMAX setup quite well and I thorougly enjoyed getting everything served with information about the situation for both sides and clear and well done graphics about the situation as it developed.
I will recommend watching this, if it is still possible. Even alone I quite enjoyed it and was able to focus solely on just absorbing the scale of this fateful operation 71 years ago.
